Holobunnies Pause Cafe is a glimpse into the world of Q-Bit side-scroller adventure game Holobunnies The Bittersweet Adventures that is scheduled to release in Q1 2018 after being successfully funded on Kickstarter. It is described by Q-Bit as a “Holobunnies appetizer you didn’t know you wanted” and I have to agree with them.

With its retro style graphics, Arcade style soundtrack and an addictive gameplay it’s a very good representation of what to expect from the full game when it releases. I will be waiting to check it out for sure. Pause Cafe is a collection of 3 mini games (Brawler, KitCat Adventure and Boss Rush) designed to introduce to you the Holobunnies universe and some of the characters. In Brawler you take on a friend in a local 1v1 duel with 5+ maps that are filled with enemies and power ups, it creates some truly frantic battles. The second mode, KitCat Adventure, is a running platformer where you only control jumping. This is the mini game I spent most of my time in, its simplicity of gameplay where you just need to press one button mixed with the difficulty of some of the levels kept me coming back time after time, even if the controls are sometimes unresponsive and the game had some lag spikes for me (maybe I just had too many programs running on my pc at the time) it was still a blast to play and fail over and over again. The third game mode is Boss Rush which pits you against different bosses with different heroes and it’s fu,n but it just doesn’t have anything that grabbed me and I just could not get used to the controls. I just kept pressing the wrong buttons for some reason.

Holobunnies Pause Cafe is an addictive collection of mini games, however I’m not sure why Q-Bit decided to release it and not include it in the main game as in game minigames. Pause Cafe is great but it just feels out of place. If you are looking for an arcade style minigame that you can play for a few minutes or few hours and have $4.99 to spare look no further than Holobunnies Pause Cafe.
