Now we’re playing with power! Again!
So, amazing news for all you gamers and Nintendo fans out there. Nintendo has decided to re-release their hit home console, the Nintendo Entertainment System or NES, but this time with a few modern accommodations and fancy new name, The NES Classic Edition!
The NES Classic Edition
The NES Classic Edition is a miniature version of it’s original self. It comes preloaded with 30 of the NES’ greatest hits, such as Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, and Kirby’s Adventure, basically anything the majority of the population loved about the NES is already in this little guy. Much like the original, The NES Classic Edition will sport 2 controller ports but also a new port that has eluded the retro gamer for many a year, an HDMI port. It’s rumored that the NES Classic Edition will also include a “Perfect-Pixel” mode that will present the games in their original screen resolutions, a feature first introduced on the Nintendo 3DS‘ Virtual Console games, giving you the option of the original experience so to speak.
The controller is also a faithful recreation of the original NES controller but instead with the same plug as a Nintendo Classic Controller, meaning that you’ll be able to use this new NES Classic Edition controller with the NES Virtual Console Games that you may already have on your Nintendo WiiU.
A Chance to Save some Coins
With an original NES in decent used condition, running today about the same price as the NES Classic edition (MSRP $59.99) if not more, the Classic Edition is not just convenient, it’s economical. The system aside, these classic all-star games have not become cheap over the past several years either. With nostalgia being as big as it is right now (check out the official website and tell me it doesn’t take you back), you just don’t find NES cartridges at garage sales for $2 anymore. That’s why this console re-release is coming at the perfect time. We all want to relive these amazing games, while sharing them and passing them on to a brand new generation, why not simplify the process with a new system that will more or less serve as the highlight reel of many of our gaming beginnings?
A Jump in the Right Direction
Besides the mere existence of the NES Classic Edition, Nintendo is tugging at our heart strings even more with a classically styled commercial (below) that is definitely a tribute to the NES commercials of yesteryear.
