Roar from IDW Games is a Risk-like game where you control Lions instead of Global Armies.
Roar focuses on more than just territories but that is a large component of winning the game. While the key to winning Risk is to collected connecting territories and building armies quickly. In Roar players take turns hunting for meat, mating, raising their cubs and working to improve their the various categories for the Pride. Other than the minor meta differences between Roar and Risk, the overall game play feels almost the same. A nice variation however is that humans have randomized behavior that can negatively affect your game play (without taking away from the enjoyment of the game).
Simply put if you enjoy games like Risk (and its many variations) you will find this game equally enjoyable. Compared to Risk though I feel like this game would be better for playing as a family while using real prides that roamed Africa and teaching them what made each pride different from the others.
