Homefront: Revolution follow-up review

Recently, we had the opportunity to try out the beta of Homefront: Revolution (Review can be found here).

Between poor graphics and glitchy gameplay we weren’t terribly impressed with Homefront, but we were still optimistic. Having played the original title, our expectations were a well written story with some surprises along the way. The biggest complaint we had about the original was its poor attempt at multiplayer felt forced and unoriginal.

Since the game is now out, we played the new title and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The graphics were better than a majority of FPS titles, controls were solid and felt natural. As for the story…..

The story was well told with great cinematic scenes that set the background of the game. So you might be asking yourself now, “But Jake, there’s got to be something wrong with the game?” You would be correct, oh wise reader.

While the developer and others in the industry marketed this as a sequel to the original, which is still one of the best told stories in gaming, this is far from it. The second title in the franchise is in fact a reboot of sorts. The enemy is still the North Korean Army but the nearly prophetic story was discarded for one of corporate greed and subterfuge. Does this ruin an otherwise great seeming game? Absolutely not! If you go into the game knowing it is not a direct sequel and looking for an interesting and thought provoking story then this is it!

Stay tuned for my review of the rest of the game in the coming months. In the meantime please enjoy the video below of the opening cinematic and first missions played by yours truly. Before you watch, please understand  I know I suck at driving the motorcycle and no I did not mean to crash when I did but driving it was still enjoyable.

Have you tried the new installment in the franchise? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
