Shadow War: Armageddon from Games Workshop is more than a Necromunda update/clone!

Recently Games Workshop announced their latest latest game based in the war torn franchise of the 41st millenium- Shadow War: Armageddon. Long time fans of Games Workshop will immediately notice the similarities to their classic gang warfare title Necromunda. Both games feature structures to climb and defend and are designed for skirmish type battles. The rules are very similar to the Warhammer 40k Kill Team but other than that don’t share any of the same rules as traditional Warhammer 40k. The trailer released directly from Warhammer TV shows just a select couple of the combinations allowed with the new structure pieces for the game.

The box set comes with two squads (Ork Boyz and Space Marine Scouts) to begin with but for the first time ever have included rules for the following teams:

  • Skitarii Rangers
  • Chaos Space Marines
  • Cultists
  • Dark Eldar Wyches
  • Dire Avengers
  • Eldar Guardians
  • Harlequin Troupe
  • Grey Knights Strike Squad
  • Necron Immortals
  • Necron Warriors
  • Tau Empire Pathfinder Team
  • Tyranid Warrior Brood
  • Neophyte Hybrids
  • Scouts
  • Scouts with sniper rifles
  • Cadian Infantry Squad
  • Ork Boyz

This list allows players to use models already in their armies to keep personal costs lower and still using teams you are already familiar with. In terms of the structure you are limited only by your imagination and ingenuity. That is one of the things that make the games and miniatures from GW so amazing, the fact that they encourage you to modify them to make them your own. A figure has a gun you don’t like, you can cut it off of the miniature (recommended more for the advanced hobbyists) and replace it with a gun from another model or spru set. With the terrain in the box you no longer get the cardboard structures held together by small pieces of plastic (in Necromunda) but pieces that fit together made of the same detailed and durable plastic that a majority of Games Workshop’s models are cast in!

We recently received an advanced copy of the game so check out the video below to see everything that was in the box:

Check back with us soon as I will be building everything in the box and playing a few games alongside my personal assistant and son, Merrick! We will have a full review for you soon!
