Many popular video games these days are accompanied by products and toys that allow fans to further invest in properties they love and enjoy their favorite characters outside of the game. Minecraft is no exception to this.
Ever since its release by Mojang in 2011, Minecraft has entertained millions of players and grown into a worldwide sensation. Also during this time the Minecraft brand has been translated into a wide variety of toys and products for fans to enjoy. The game’s iconic pixelated graphics are especially well represented in toy form by LEGO, JINX, and Mattel.
LEGO
There is perhaps no better pairing of intellectual properties than LEGO and Minecraft. Minecraft is like a digitized version of LEGO and both provide an outlet for creativity. The LEGO-Minecraft pairing originated from the LEGO CUUSOO program which let LEGO fans vote on which LEGO sets they wanted to see made. Minecraft achieved the 10,000 signatures needed for consideration in just several days and the very first set was released in the summer of 2012. There are currently 14 sets available with prices ranging from $20 all the way up to $110. The different sets focus on geographic areas and locations from the game. Some examples of sets are the farm, the cave, and the nether forest. The sets also feature various characters from the game such as Steve, creepers, and endermen.
JINX
Jinx, an online clothing company, sells an assortment of Minecraft products that range from figurines to Mincraft branded clothing. Some of the many Minecraft themed products JINX sells are cell phone cases, phone chargers, magnets, weapon replicas, jewelry, plushies, and apparel. In regards to toys, Jinx has teamed up with Mojang to produce both 3 inch and larger scale figurines. There have been multiple series of these figures released with various themed and core sets. The figures typically come with a block and an item.
Mattel
Mattel has several different Minecraft products including replica weapons, figurines, as well as playsets that the figures can interact with. Figures can be purchased either individually through mystery packs or in packs of three. The mystery packs are completely random whereas the three-packs have predetermined character combinations, so you know what you are getting. Mattel has released multiple series of figurines, with most of them focused on a specific biome or theme from the Minecraft universe. For example, some of the different series are stone, grass, cave, and ice. The figures and playsets from each series correspond to their theme and make it possible to recreate different areas from the game. The figures and playsets range in price from $2.99 for individual figures to over $80 for a playset.
LEGO, JINX, and Mattel have worked with Mojang to create some really great products that capture the essence of the Minecraft universe.With all these great options and more, it won’t be hard for the Minecraft enthusiast to find the merch that fits their needs.
