Ubisoft E3 2017 Conference Impressions

I was curious about what Ubisoft would offer this year. I must confess I have a love/hate relationship with Ubisoft, love their games and concept of most of them but Hate how buggy, exploitable and broken they most of the time turn out to be.

After watching all the conference’s I was slightly disappointed with stuff on offer this year just Sony showed stuff to be excited about and Anthems looked amazing on the Xbox presentation. Other then that it was a quite boring E3. Let’s start with what was on show

Mario+Rabbids

Tactical adventure RPG that was leaked earlier but it was still great to see gameplay and a trailer, it looked like a very fun game. Mario + Rabbids looks like a perfect game for Nintendo Switch and it’s nice to see devs finally starting to develop for the console and not just recycling older games. Release date is scheduled for August 29.

Assassin’s Creed Origins

Ancient Egypt, the birth of assassin’s brotherhood with a revamped combat system which looks a lot more interesting than it was before, more dark souls like with dodging and parrying than the normal mash one button system they had in previous creed games. However this is a demo and not finished product, for that we will have to wait till October 27, hopefully it’s not going to be as buggy as previous games.

Crew 2

For some reason Ubisoft decided to do a sequel to highly disappointing mmoish open world racing game Crew (maybe it had the following that I don’t know about). Once again the trailer looks great and they added water racing and flying, but I’m afraid after the flop that was the first Crew I’ll be skipping the second one. Crew 2 is coming early 2018.

South Park Fractured But Whole!!!

Again we had a glimpse at a new South Park game, nothing new was shown but it still looks amazing and hopefully going to be out on October 17 as promised without any further delays.

One thing I hoped not to see  is mobile games from big companies but of course Ubisoft is bringing South Park to mobile and it could be interesting but not for me.

Transference

Ubisoft and SpectreVision (Elijah Woods Studio) showed of Transference, all that was shown was just a teaser but it looks to be a trippy VR psychological thriller which I’m excited about. I am one of those people who still believe in VR and waiting for the game to show off its VR’s full potential. Perhaps Transference can be the one to do that. We will see spring 2018.

Pirates!!!

Everything that involves Pirates or Vikings is a must play/watch for me, so when Ubisoft unveiled Skull & Bones I was hyped. Tactical naval combat with coop and PvP. It’s everything that made Assassin Creed Black Flag great without all the unnecessary assassin creed stuff. Just Naval combat that looks epic. Also a Kraken!!!! Fall 2018 can’t come any sooner.

Just Dance 2018

I’m never sure about this franchise but it must be popular so they announce a new one every year.

StarLink Battle for Atlas !?

Looks like one of those toy games that you need to spend way too much money to enjoy to its fullest potential with a slight difference to games like Lego Dimensions, Disney Infinity or Skylanders. In StarLink you build spaceships other than just putting figures you control on the pad. I’m sure it will find it’s core audience but again it’s not for me and I can’t really say much about it other then it looks cool.

Steep gets a new dlc.

Steep is one of those games that will appeal to winter sport fans and for people who need a game to kill a few hours or maybe even weeks in between games. It’s a massive open world game with loads to do and everything they are adding to it looks great so far. It’s slightly buggy like most Ubisoft games but nothing major or game breaking yet.

Far Cry 5

Far Cry 5 is probably one of the games I’m looking most forward too and everything they show looks amazing. I love the setting and atmosphere of the trailers. Hopefully they will include all the Easter eggs that connect all of the games together like the arms dealer/priest. Gameplay shown at E3 was awesome and I have just one concern; I want it to be as fun as it looks and less of the same repetitive thing like all other Far Cry games after couple of hours.

Beyond Good And Evil 2

Biggest surprise for me was seeing Beyond Good And Evil 2. It looks a lot more Adult orientated then I remember the first game being. Not much was shone of the gameplay but it was enough to get excited for. We’ve waited long enough for a sequel which is actually a prequel. I have one question-when??? When???
It was a very good conference with lots of cool and strange games on show, probably one of the best ones of this year. Other then Sony no other conference got me so excited about the games to come and having the most games that were shown out this year is a plus. I just hope that they will be less broken and less exploitable than most of the games out of the last couple of years from Ubisoft.
