The most recent generation of Pokémon is making its way into Pokémon Go! Just in time for Summer!
That’s right Pokémon Go’ers. The Alolan region is missing some Pokémon and they’re expected to turn up in your backyard soon. How Soon? Which ones? What happened to the other generations of Pokémon? Here’s what we know:
Announced on the official Pokémon Go website and within the app itself on May 21st. We should be seeing all of the Alolan versions (originally found in Pokémon Sun and Moon) of all the Kanto region starting soon. This will include the following Pokémon: Exeggutor, Raichu, Diglett, Dugtrio, Rattata, Geodude, Marowak, Vulpix, Grimer, Meowth, and Sandshrew. It’s almost guaranteed we’ll see their respective Alolan form evolutions as well. The conditions under which we will see these forms in Pokémon Go rather than their standard forms is currently unannounced but may end up having something to do with the weather.

Even with the release of Alolan styled clothes for player’s avatars, this announcement comes as a tiny bit of a surprise to many Pokémon Go fans. These forms are technically skipping several generations of Pokémon in the lineage of the games like those found in Diamond & Pearl, Black & White and beyond. The fact that they’re only currently releasing the Kanto/Alolan Pokémon and the time of the years seems to be Niantic/The Pokémon Company’s only reasoning, besides fun that is. Will we eventually see the full Alolan roster? Maybe! But it will likely fall in the original release line, so it could be some time. In the mean time, get yourself hyped once more with the last gen’s release trailer!
