Diablo 3’s The Darkening of Tristram is upon us as well as the 20th anniversary of the beloved dungeon ARPG, Diablo. This is a free update that will only be available through January.
One of the biggest draws is the recreation of all 16 levels of the original Diablo, but with Diablo 3 assets, according to the Diablo developer video. Bosses such as The Butcher will also be remade and altered to fit the Diablo 3 gameplay.
Not only did the developers recreate all the levels, but they also added RetroVision. Which really adds a layer of nostalgia to the update. If that wasn’t enough, the original Tristram Village theme can be heard during your playthrough of the levels.

Changes to Greater Rifts were also included. The progress bar displays percentage completion at the end of the bar when it is filled, even distribution of mobs throughout floors and finishing the rift without dying grants players a chance to upgrade Legendary Gems.
Other changes include updates to different weapons and set items. According to the patch notes, Saffron Wrap, Faithful Memory, Hellcat Waistguard and more have been updated.
